Then review the entire series on scripting. You should be able to create Roll-A-Ball direct from there.

I know this may not be what you want to hear, but did you try the learn section? I've watched introduction series on that too, and I think I have some foundation of programming centric thinking now, but I've still not put it into practical use past "almost" creating pong. I feel the biggest thing holding me back right now is the wall of learning c#.

Or advice on how to stop wasting time and learn it? But can anyone just give me advice for like, just to literally just learn unit圓d in and out and c# programming for it? a paid tutorial series or something. I'm not even sure what type of game, maybe a zelda type game, or platformer with combat, or space shooter.

I think I know alot already but also I think I actually know nothing because I havent created anything past an almost pong game in unity.Īnyway, I finally want to stop wasting time and just get right into it and learn it. I spent days watching tutorials on so many things about game making, even when not understanding much of it I still watched. I tried stencyl, construct, unreal engine blueprints.

I then tried unit圓d and was faced with learning to code and I got frustrated so I tried to find a way to visual program things, which I think just delayed me learning to make games for years. I first tried C# and XNA and learned basics of code (then forgot) then I tried RPGmaker, made a few events in it, realized too limiting for my needs.

Following a tutorial will help you to get it done, and it's really really really important.I've been wanting to make my own game for 4 years now but I've been procrastinating and becoming preoccupied with other things and generally wasting time. The main problem when you start to learn game development is start and finish a game. (I even recommend a YouTube channel, which is helping me a lot: ) Instead of seeing a bunch of concepts, you know where to apply few of them. So, I started to watch tutorials (skipping the explications about coding, etc), and it help me a lot. But, pass from classic development to "Unity 3D" development was a little complicated due to Unity has it's on way to work referencing graphical objects in a code, develop a game got a lot of Physics involved, and you have to get to know the libraries and functions responsible for this in C# with UnityEngine, and even the concepts involving design patterns seem different.Īfter, tried some books - some took too long to go deep in the subject, other went too quickly -, I've decide learn by doing. I've tried to read some books about Unity 3D, but it was really hard to find one dedicated to a person with my profile I'm a developer, so master C# is not really a problem.

Just for the programming text to be seen easily. Just make sure they are very cheap, or do tutorials on youtube. I would prefer a few small to medium size game projects with scripting lessons etc in one book like a visual studio book of 1000 pages, and not just the 350 pages in most engine books that are mostly pictures and little writing, as far as I have found with Unreal books etc. I know what you mean buy wanting a book though. But unity menu's and the new functions in unity 5, will not be covered in old books, so you will have to print or search for tutorials on unity etc. Just bought a £3.30 C# visual studio book with 1000 pages instead of 2017 version for about £40. But for game basics on the general function such as raycasts and rigibody/collider basics etc, any book about that age should be ok, as long as its cheap.Unity books are expensive, like most engine books. I'm having trouble finding menu's in old tutorials, so an old book will be similar, unless it's about C# coding etc.
